It took 100 singers, ringers and instrumentalists to do justice to Dan Forrest's magnificent rendering of Psalm 100, Jubilate Deo. The work, and the choir's performance, received stellar reviews from the enthusiastic attendees!
The concert also featured performances by the Good Shepherd Ringers, and choral works by Mark Hayes, John Ness Beck and Leon Sher, as well as the world premiere of "The Love of God," Chris Catone's powerful setting of Romans 8:35-39: "nothing can separate us from the love of God." "The Love of God" was commissioned by the SJW Music Ministry for this event. Chris is the Director of Music at St Rosalia Church (St Paul Cathedral Parish), and is a Swissvale native (Madonna del Castello Parishioner and Word of God School alumnus) and long time friend of the SJW Music Ministry.
The concert was also a financial success thanks to the tremendous ticket sales, several generous gifts, and the support of over 100 singer "sponsors". Although our Music Ministry never considers events like Jubilate Deo to be "fundraising opportunities," the concert paid for itself - covering all of the musician stipends and miscellaneous expenses, leaving a surplus that will help cover expenses for the future programs like our Lessons and Carols Service on Dec 10 at 7pm at St Maurice.
Thanks to all who made Jubilate Deo a success! To the will-call desk hosts, ticket takers, shuttle drivers, parking attendants, Krystal and Susan, Forest Hills Boro Mayor Frank Porco, the Forest Hills Police Department, Fr Dan. and his wonderful reception volunteers. And of course, thanks to the fabulous musicians, the Good Shepherd Ringers, directed by Kelly Thompson, and the singers from St Thomas the Apostle, directed by Thomas Coyne, St. Rosalia, directed by Chris Catone, and from Temple David and St Joseph the Worker, directed by concert organizer and director Norm Chapman.
And finally thanks to all who purchased tickets and sponsored singers for the event!!
