Music is a vital part of our worship, and those who serve as cantors and psalmists play an essential role in proclaiming the Word of God through song. Just as lectors proclaim Scripture through spoken word, cantors and psalmists bring the Psalms and other sacred texts to life through sung prayer. This ministry is more than just singing—it is a form of proclamation that leads the congregation deeper into the liturgy.
Proclaim the Responsorial Psalm during Mass, helping the congregation meditate on God’s Word
Lead the assembly in sung prayer, ensuring full and active participation in the liturgy
Encourage the congregation’s response by modeling confidence and reverence
Serve as a bridge between Scripture and worship, making the Word of God resonate in the hearts of the faithful
This ministry is open to those who:
Have a strong, clear singing voice and the ability to lead others in song
Are comfortable standing before the congregation as a leader of prayer
Are willing to learn the liturgical and musical aspects of the role
Have a heart for ministry and a desire to deepen their own faith through service
Musical training is helpful but not required. Guidance and training will be provided to help you grow in this role.
